4th of July memories 2012

This years 4th of July was not the norm at all.    This was the first year we did not have a party in Arizona and probably only the second time ever we didn't have a party.   The 4th landed right smack in the middle of the week which was not a prime party day for us.   TJ and Thayne are both working in California and TJ was not able to take any days off before or after.   It is our favorite holiday and being together as a family is more important than a party, so I loaded the other 3 kids and headed to California for the holiday.   No big plans, just gonna spend the day together.   Well and spend the day with the Cuillards too, but that is a given.   We drove out Monday afternoon, hitting no traffic I might add.    Thayne got was off work when we got there so we headed to Tommy's for dinner.  Big surprise huh?

Tuesday the boys were working so I took the other kids to the beach.   We met Kaye and her boys there.  It was FA~REEEEZZZZING.  Don't you wish I had pictures to show you.   Well I only have a few on my phone, I totally forgot my camera at home.  *cussing occurred in my mind when I realized that I forgot it*.  (Which btw I just found out about the google+ app which is supposed to make it easier for me to send my phone pictures to my blog, so as soon as I figure that out I will blog the pictures.)   So anyways, it was cold and my bathing suit never saw the fog of day, my warm clothes and blanket stayed on the whole time.    Wyatt did have fun in the water with the other boys, they did not care it was cold and did not care that I told them about a shark spotted down the coast just the day before.   Nope they didn't care and luckily they survived.   We left the beach and as any person visiting their old stompin grounds would do, we hit another one of our favorite fine dining establishments on our way home.   Tico's Tacos did not disappoint and the best part is my kids love it too so no bribing involved to get them to go.   YUM!

Wednesday was the 4th.   After sleeping in and getting ready we headed to Simi to meet the Cuillards to see Spiderman.   OH wait, back up.   That morning Thayne and TJ went to the gym and brought back another favorite food we like in California.....donuts!   Seriously they have way better donuts than AZ, (sorry Laurie, but yours are our favorite in AZ).  There is just something about good cakey donuts.  We had time to kill before the movie which meant time to have some lunch and it was only right to go to another favorite spot to eat.  Chuy's it was and I was starting to think I was turning into food.   Thank goodness Jessika shared with me.   So we went to the movies and then hung out for awhile with the Cuillards.   Our plans were to go to the Stake Center to watch fireworks.   We could see alot of old friends and it was a good view of fireworks.   Now before we headed to the stake center and just know several hours have passed, we went to get dinner.   Yep more food.   Yep we had to go to one of Most favorite spots in Simi, Green Acres BBQ.   It was delish as always.   I was for sure having a food hangover by now.

Think about this..... Tommy's, Tico's Tacos, donuts, Chuys, Green Acres all in 2 days.   Sickening I tell ya but OH SO GOOD!   I should have been filming for the food channel.    I am not going to talk about the fact that my boys had Chipolte in there too, us girls couldn't do it.
At the stake center I did get to see some friends I haven't seen in many years.  In fact I visited so much that I didn't spend hardly any time with my family which makes me feel bad.   It was just great seeing some family, friends and some of my old Laurels who are now grown and have kids.   I need to get back more often to visit people and not just food.

Thursday the boys went to work and we packed up to head home.   Quick trip I know.   We drove to Thaynes office to say goodbye and drop off the key and he offered to take us to Hozy's for breakfast.   It is a neat little place to eat right next door to the office and we have gone a few times before and it is always good.  But you will never guess what....huge portions just like everywhere else.   How do people eat such big portions?   It was yummy as always and we left stuffed.

It was a fun, but very different 4th of July for us.  Many times during the day Thayne would make comments about missing our party.   I guess it's what I am learning in my life right now.....Embrace changes and just enjoy and make more memories.

Picture to be added later.

How do you stay so skinny??? No offense taken on the donut thing, you know I don't really like any donuts, right? Glad you had so much fun. Change has it's perks too! Ü
