embarrased? nope

Even when Thayne and I try to embarrass our kids, it rarely works.
Thayne did manage to embarrass Sam and I last Friday night.  We went to the high school football game and it was super windy.  Thayne decided to wear his clear plastic safety goggles to protect his eyes from the wind.    Sam and I pretended we didn't know him.   Jess and Wyatt didn't seem to care that he wore them.
We don't embarrass easy, but plastic safety goggles to the kids High School will do it.

The one kid that never ever seems to be embarrassed by us is TJ.
He has always been affectionate with us even in public and never cares what his friends think.
When we would show up at his Jr High school to talk to a teacher, he would always walk up to us and give us a hug and a kiss right in front of his friends.

Today, Thayne and I decided to drive to Paradise Valley to visit TJ at college to watch his pole vaulting practice.    I never worried that he wouldn't want us to be there with his friends.
As we walked towards the field TJ left his friends and girl friend and walked right over to us and gave us a hug and a kiss.   We were the only parents there watching and I said to Thayne "do you think the other kids think it's weird we are here watching"?  All I know is TJ liked us there and kept walking over to spend time with us when he wasn't waiting to jump.   Even in college it is ok to have your parents hanging around.

It was fun to see him jumping again.   They just started jumping today for the first time this season.  TJ is doing good and we are hoping for a good pole vaulting year.   I can't wait until the beginning of the year for his meets to start.   TJ's coach told him that some Division 1 colleges have been calling and asking about him and we would love to see him move on to a 4 year college with a pole vaulting scholarship.    Pole vaulting got him to go to college, now let's hope it will keep him there for a few more years.
