water some plants. Most days when I do this I will look
around at the outside walls of the house to see if I see any
scorpions so I can kill them before they make their way into
the house. As I scanned the walls my eyes saw something
that I recogninzed but only see once in a very long while.
It's a praying mantis.
My dad used to catch them when my brothers and sisters
and I would find them when we were little. He would
usually put the praying mantis in a bottle. Most times
he would give the praying mantis a mansion (a 5 gallon water bottle).
Then he would put long twigs and leaves in the bottle to make
the praying matis feel at home, he would tell us to catch flies or bugs
to put in the bottle so it would have food. It was always fun watching
it catch a fly in mid air and eat it.
Sooooo......
would it surprise you that all I could think about when I saw that little guy
on the wall was how can I catch it to show Wyatt. Unfortunately,
it was way to high up on the wall and I decided to just leave it alone and
maybe one day I would have another chance to catch one for him.
Fast forward to Monday night~
Wyatt walked into the house holding an old jar and walked up to me and said
"mom look what I just caught?"
Kinda funny huh? Look he even put leaves in it.
About a half hour later he told me he went outside by the horse
stalls and caught a fly and threw it in the jar and the
praying mantis was already eating it. He then threw in
a cricket.
Even tho they live hundreds of miles apart,
they are alot alike in many ways.

that is so sweet. we actually just caught a praying mantis with dad when we were up there at Fall break. Some things never change.
Yes, that's one great thing about dad, he takes time to smell the roses.
That is so special to have those moments that connect us to eachother. I also love those little guys, they are a cool creature.
