ENOUGH!
I am going to give each child one room for a week and I am printing out and posting a list of what needs to be done in that room to call it clean. If I have 4 grown children, I should be able to have at least 4 rooms in the house that are cleaned on a daily basis. Now I am not sure how well this is going to go over, because just asking them to unload the dishwasher can cause whining.
Wish me luck and let me know if you have any suggestions or advice. You would think by now I would have a system that worked.

Shannon split our house into zones, and each kid gets a zone. This way, you can add more than one room/area to a zone and more of the house can get done with the same amount of kids. Also, once they start doing it more frequently, it isn't a bad deal.
I like Ethan's idea. And the whining will be less once they get over the newness of the chore. I also like printing off a list of what needs to be done in each room, maybe laminate it and give them a dry erase marker to mark things off the list. (That may be insulting to teenagers - I don't know.) I haven't done it yet, but I want to take a picture of their rooms clean and looking the way they're supposed to and print it off as a poster. Walmart will do that for about $5 each copy. Then put that up on the wall so there's no question about what constitutes a clean room. Good luck with your new system!
Gooood luck. I have heard rave reviews about the zone system.
So Shannon zones system isn't just a good idea but she also has a list of disciplines, like talking back and attitude and such and at the end Ethan assignment is dishing out the MERCY! Which by the way doesn't come easily. Love it!
Wished I had a good suggestion, my so called list never made it to the frig. but I loved the time you had to stand at attention for dad to do expection on your rooms. I thought that was fun.
My Dad used to tell us that the only reason they had kids was to have less work for themselves. As a mom I just don't see that it was any easier that way.
